Lyndhurst Curriculum – RE

At Lyndhurst Community Primary school, we follow the Manchester agreed syllabus for RE. We ensure that all children are challenged, inspired, and supported throughout their religious education in line with our whole school vision.

Support

RE will contribute to support our children’s lives and education in school by provoking challenging questions about meaning and purpose in life, beliefs about God, ultimate reality, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. Children will be supported as they learn to weigh up the value of wisdom from a range of sources and challenged to develop and express their insights in response and to agree or disagree respectfully.

Challenge
In RE, we challenge children to question their thoughts and opinions. Our Re curriculum nurtures SMSC development and pupils’ understanding of diversity.  The children discuss challenging questions about meaning and purpose in life, beliefs about God, ultimate reality, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. 


Inspire
In RE, we inspire our children to be tolerant and accepting even inquisitive about differences in religion, society and their outside world.
At Lyndhurst, we will inspire our children by giving them opportunities to:
* Handle artefacts
* Use imaginative play or drama to express feelings and ideas
* Meet visitors from local religious communities
* Take part in whole school events (multi-faith days, Harvest Festival, school performances)
* Respond to images, games, stories, art, music and dance
* Compare religions and worldviews through discussion 
* Debate and communicate religious belief, worldviews and philosophical ideas and answer ultimate questions posed by these 
* Visit religious settings
